All those who are working and have a work visa are eligible for medical cover under the Thai social security system. To join you must make an application within 30 days from the date of employment. Submitting the application form along with a copy of your passport and work permit. Monthly contributions will be taken from your salary.
1. Free medical care in the designated government hospital.
2. Free out patient treatment at government hospitals
3. Free in-patient treatment at government hospitals.
If your doctor advises you are unfit to work, the social security office will pay 50% of your monthly salary in the form of a cash benefit. Not more than 90 days will be paid each time and not more than 180 days in one calendar year except in the case of chronic illness where only 365 days of cash benefit will be paid.
The female insured party is entitled to deliver her baby at any government hospital and can claim back the cost at any social security office for a lump cash sum of 13,000 THB. Social security will pay 50% of salary as maternity leave for a maximum of 3 months. A family can claim 400 THB per month for each child providing that they are registered in the social security system and have made a minimum of 12 months contributions in the last 36 months. The benefit is paid out for children under the age of 6 but a family can only claim for a maximum of 3 children.
The insured person will receive 50% of monthly wages for the rest of their lives. Upon death the funeral manager will receive 40,000 Baht to help with funeral costs.
In the case of paying contributions for 15 years or more the insured is entitled to an old age pension. With the average pension 20% of the average monthly wage over the past 60 months.
