The Rotary Club of Koh Samui (ROCKS) will close and cease to exist from 30th June 2018. Members have been busy discussing the disposal of our remaining charity funds to help Koh Samui Hospital. With the help and support Hospital Director, Dr. Theerasak Viriyanont a list of needed equipment for the maternity and children ward was developed. ROCKS is pleased to be able to provide the much needed and potentially lifesaving equipment listed below;
1. Patient Monitor
2. Mobile Pulse Oximeter
3. Double Phototherapy
4. Radiant Warmer
5. Infant Resuscitator
6. Fluid Infusion Pump
Collectively, these items have cost 640,000 baht – the majority of the Rotary Clubs remaining charity funds. We are confident this has been a very worthwhile expenditure and the Staff at the Koh Samui Hospital will put this equipment to good use.
On Wednesday 20 June 2018 Members of the Rotary Club of Koh Samui (Adele Smith, Paul Hawkins, Philip Parker, Peter Brakes & Wally Smith) were on hand at the hospital to officially donate the above items to the Koh Samui Hospital.
The Rotary Club of Koh Samui would like to thank all our Friends who have enabled us to provide these vital pieces of equipment, as well as carry out a variety of important charity projects over the past 15 years.
On June 25, 2018 Mr. Mikhail Glazov, a seriously ill Russian citizen, was evacuated by a medical escort of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “All-Russian Centre for Disaster Medicine “Zaschita” (“Protection”) under the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. The Russian doctors and nurses accompanied the patient by 06.00 a.m. Bangkok Airways flight from Koh Samui to Bangkok and further by Aeroflot 10.00 a.m. flight to Moscow. The Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Thailand provided necessary support to the medical staff in preparing and carrying out the medical transportation of the patient.
The Embassy expresses its deep gratitude to the management of the Koh Samui Hospital where Mr. Mikhail Glazov underwent treatment for its assistance in settling Mr. Glazov’s case and facilitating his repatriation.
An important role was played by the Honorary Consulate of Russia in Suratthani province as well as by warm-hearted Russian compatriots residing in Thailand who promptly raised necessary donations.

On December 21, 2017 We wish to thank Dr.Chumpol Thiengtham, the chairman of the Bavarian Thai Academic Cooperation Centre (TACC), and his team (Mrs. Inge Jacoby & Mr. Karlfriede Metzler) for visiting Koh Samui Hospital and their generous donation of ฿50,000 (Fifty Thousand Thai Baht). Koh Samui is not the only hospital in Thailand to have received donations from TACC. On Koh Samui there are around 800 German nationals, this gift will enable the hospital to continue to treat these and other patients, particularly supporting those that have difficulty meeting the costs of treatment.
On August 13, 2017 Dr Sopon Mekthon, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Public Health, visited Koh Samui Hospital and presided over the opening of the Somdet Buddhacarya Anusorn (Kiaw Upaseno) Building. The hospital director, Dr. Treerasak Wiriyanon, said that Koh Samui Hospital was the island's public hospital with limited scope for transferring patients to Suratthani Hospital and therefore it needed to expand in size and the amount of medical equipment to be better able to deal with emergencies. This would also allow the hospital to conveniently meet the needs of tourists who visit the island, as before the hospital only had 4 beds in the intensive care unit and 30 private rooms – which were not enough to adequately serve patients. The new 3-story building now has 12 beds in the intensive care unit, on the first floor and 24 private rooms, in total, on the second and third floors. Since 2014, 60 Million Thai Baht has been donated by people of faith and Wat Saket Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan to support with the construction of this building.
